Tattoo Aftercare

Congratulations on your new tattoo! Proper aftercare is essential to ensure your tattoo heals beautifully and maintains its vibrant look for years to come. Follow these steps to care for your fresh ink:

  • 1. Leave the Bandage On

    • Your artist will cover your tattoo with a protective bandage or wrap. Leave it on for the recommended time (usually 2-4 hours) to protect it from bacteria and dirt.

    • If using a second skin, follow your artist's instructions on how long to keep it on (typically 24-48 hours).

    2. Wash Your Tattoo

    • After removing the bandage, gently wash your tattoo with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap.

    • Use clean hands to lightly remove any plasma, ink residue, or blood.

    • Pat dry with a soft, clean towel or allow it to air dry. Avoid rubbing.

    3. Moisturize Regularly

    • Once your tattoo is dry, apply a thin layer of fragrance-free, alcohol-free lotion or specialized tattoo aftercare ointment.

    • Reapply 2-3 times a day to prevent dryness and itching. Avoid over-moisturizing, as it can suffocate the skin.

    4. Avoid These During Healing

    • Scratching or Picking:

    • Your tattoo may itch or peel as it heals. Do not scratch, rub, or pick at it, as this can cause scarring or loss of ink.

    • Swimming:

    • Stay out of pools, hot tubs, oceans, and lakes for at least 2-3 weeks.

    • Direct Sunlight:

    • Keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight during healing. After it heals, use SPF 30+ sunscreen to prevent fading.

    • Tight Clothing:

    • Avoid clothing that rubs or restricts airflow to the tattooed area.

    5. Stay Hydrated & Healthy

    • Drink plenty of water and eat a balanced diet to promote faster healing.

    • Avoid excessive alcohol or smoking, as they can slow down the recovery process.

    6. Watch for Signs of Infection

    • While rare, infections can occur. Look for excessive redness, swelling, heat, or unusual discharge.

    • If you suspect an infection, contact your tattoo artist or consult a healthcare professional immediately.

    Long-Term Care

To keep your tattoo looking fresh and vibrant:

    • Always apply sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) when exposing your tattoo to the sun.

    • Keep your skin moisturized.

    • Schedule touch-ups as needed.

Your tattoo is a work of art—take care of it, and it will look amazing for years to come!
